This exhibit tells the remarkable story of where the “Father of Texas”—Stephen F. Austin—first put down roots in Texas. The village he hoped would become the capital of an independent Texas was instead burned to the ground during the Texas Revolution, so the interpretive program is tasked with reimagining these tumultuous colonial years. Our exhibit brings together custom scratchboard mural work from artists Kent Barton, Bruce Hutchison and Suzanne Shelden; dynamic multimedia from partner Cortina Productions; plus telling primary sources and archeological evidence of the vanished town.
